I wisely stepped backwards onto the sidewalk to get out of the way, but that wasn&#8217;t the end.   Apparently, the driver didn&#8217;t realize that the car behind him was a police car.  And that he didn&#8217;t yield to a pedestrian &#8211; me.  The lights and siren went on and I think a ticket was issued.
