{"id":2972,"date":"2025-01-04T19:59:28","date_gmt":"2025-01-05T00:59:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/?p=2972"},"modified":"2025-01-04T19:59:28","modified_gmt":"2025-01-05T00:59:28","slug":"a-falling-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/2025\/01\/04\/a-falling-out\/","title":{"rendered":"a falling out"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>(If there was ever a post to be labeled \u201ctoo much information\u201d, it would be this one.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have a Menards (\u201cSave Big Money at Menards!\u201d) a few miles away, but there\u2019s no quick route there and we usually go to Lowe\u2019s if we need some home improvement supplies.&nbsp; When we do go to Menards, I try to get the most random collection of purchases as possible &#8211; while still only buying things that I need. &nbsp; That condition adds to the challenge &#8211; otherwise, it would be just a waste of money for a lark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a recent trip, my list included carpet rectangles for the stairs (to help the dogs have better traction), a couple of bundles of firewood, chicken noodle soup, pop tarts, dry erase markers, sidewalk salt, and dog treats.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It didn\u2019t feel <em>quite<\/em> random enough and I stopped by the clothing section to see if they had any neat hats.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can always use a new hat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of a hat, I found that they had men\u2019s underwear for sale &#8211; and at a pretty good price too.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I had a couple of pairs at home that had worn out and thought this would be a good &#8211; and novel &#8211; replacement.\u00a0 Sidewalk salt, pop tarts, and underwear?\u00a0 <em>Delightfully<\/em> random.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I picked up a package of briefs, black and navy, size large (36-38).&nbsp; I\u2019m at the lower end of that range, as will become clear in a bit, but didn\u2019t want them too tight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I headed to the checkout, got no reaction from the clerk who\u2019s likely seen every combination of goods known to man, and I was on my way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I got home and unpacked my car, I tossed the new underwear in the wash. The worn out underwear got tossed in the trash.&nbsp; (I suppose I could have used those for rags, but they were really worn though.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And when the new briefs came up in rotation I noticed the fit was a little odd.&nbsp; They seemed very tall for briefs and though they fit my waist pretty well, the leg holes seemed a bit\u2026loose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wore them for a bit and then moved in apparently the wrong direction and I\u2026well\u2026 fell out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or at least part of me did, through the leg holes.&nbsp; The parts that the underwear is specifically intended to keep contained.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was by myself and quickly put things back where they belonged.&nbsp; &nbsp; I thought it was an anomaly, but it kept happening.&nbsp; And it got worse as the fabric of the leg holes relaxed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pretty soon, it was if I wasn\u2019t wearing any underwear for all the good they did me. &nbsp; And it wasn\u2019t just that one defective pair &#8211; it was all three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I suppose they could still work to sleep in or for deeply lazy days when it\u2019s okay to \u201clet it all hang out\u201d, but as day-to-day underwear they were a failure.\u00a0 I should have gotten a smaller size or &#8211; to follow through on a really crazy idea &#8211; don\u2019t buy underwear at the same place you can buy fireplace tools, floor tile, or fluorescent tube lights.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lesson learned, I guess.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Excuse me while I\u2026adjust.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(If there was ever a post to be labeled \u201ctoo much information\u201d, it would be this one.)
