{"id":2627,"date":"2021-10-24T23:44:32","date_gmt":"2021-10-24T23:44:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/?p=2627"},"modified":"2021-10-24T23:44:32","modified_gmt":"2021-10-24T23:44:32","slug":"eyes-revisited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/2021\/10\/24\/eyes-revisited\/","title":{"rendered":"eyes revisited"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For my third eye appointment I went to a new eye doctor &#8211; a \u201csecond tier\u201d, I suppose since my regular doctor wasn\u2019t quite sure what was on my eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new doctor, while knowledgeable, was kind of an idiot.&nbsp; Or at least really bad with people.&nbsp; He was half an hour late getting into the exam room and spent the entire time spouting medical jargon at me.&nbsp; Well, except for when he gave me the treatment options and said \u201cthis next part is going to scare you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The diagnosis is proteinaceous deposits caused by a breakdown of the membrane in my eye.&nbsp; The treatment is to scrape the cornea and put a contact lens in while it heals &#8211; and hope it doesn\u2019t get infected.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m also \u201cpre-glaucoma\u201d, so, added bonus there.&nbsp; He didn\u2019t find that out until they dumped a bunch of drops in my eye to dilate, then had me stare into the sun (or the eye doctor\u2019s exam room equivalent).&nbsp; And then he couldn\u2019t get rid of me fast enough.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I went in there feeling anxious and cranky &#8211; and left feeling anxious, cranky, and confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With throw-away sunglasses in place, I headed back to work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the fourth appointment, I had another follow up with my regular eye doctor.&nbsp; She explained that I don\u2019t need to do the keratotomy right away and that while my optic nerve is \u201cbigger than average\u201d (I\u2019m not boasting or anything), it also doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019m going to get glaucoma.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, I did need to get progressive lenses for my new glasses.\u00a0 Sigh.\u00a0 I might have the butt of a 20 year old, but my eyes are almost 50.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kinda makes you think &#8211; all that our eyes have seen and taken in.  So much light over all those years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I had narrowed down the frames to two while I was waiting for the appointment &#8211; because I\u2019m very efficient &#8211; and had my decision in a couple minutes after sitting with the clerk.\u00a0  Medium progressive, no to the transitions, and yes to the anti-glare.
