Last Friday was my boss\u2019s last day on the job – he retired after 30+ years of service at the University.\u00a0 We\u2019ve known about this for a while and I\u2019d already started taking over his responsibilities – and so on Monday, my promotion to Director of Web Services went into effect.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There\u2019s lots that\u2019s good: bit more money, already familiar with the work, good rapport with my colleagues, new challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There\u2019s some not-great as well.\u00a0 I\u2019ll still be in charge of the switchboard and they aren\u2019t going to back fill my current position.\u00a0 So, I need to figure out how to do my old job and my new job in the same amount of hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What\u2019s weird is that, more than once, I\u2019ve gotten the thought in my head that I can\u2019t possibly be in charge\u00a0 – of anything, really. I\u2019m still just a kid!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then I remind myself that I\u2019m actually a 46 year old adult and I\u2019ve been working for the University of Akron for over 20 years.\u00a0 So, I think I\u2019ll be okay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m aware, though, that just because I\u2019m getting the nameplate on my door doesn\u2019t mean that I\u2019m suddenly the expert.\u00a0 I\u2019m taking a Supervision 101 course in the Fall and the changes I\u2019m making are small to start off. We are getting rid of the Weekly Wednesday Webteam meetings for the time being, though.\u00a0 Those were…not my favorite part of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, July 1, 2019 started a new era for our team.\u00a0 And then on July 3rd, I inadvertently rerouted the entire UA website to an online archival collection of bags. For about 1 minute and 25 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s a long story and I got it fixed before anyone picked up the phone.\u00a0 Still, not the greatest confidence booster. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
