{"id":2458,"date":"2018-12-11T02:11:43","date_gmt":"2018-12-11T02:11:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/?p=2458"},"modified":"2018-12-11T02:11:43","modified_gmt":"2018-12-11T02:11:43","slug":"peacock-enforced-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/2018\/12\/11\/peacock-enforced-art\/","title":{"rendered":"peacock, enforced art"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Peacock, enforced art<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few months ago, I helped a grad student with her online survey. &nbsp;It should have been an easy project, but there were a lot of edits to do, firewalls to surpass, and emails to deliver. &nbsp;I was ready for it to be over long before it was actually done.  And when it did conclude, she wanted to stop by and give me something as a thank-you. &nbsp;I always feel a little awkward about that &#8211; unless it\u2019s cookies &#8211; because this my job and I\u2019m happy to help.  I told her I was glad to have helped and her thank you &#8211; and future success &#8211; was all I needed.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I figured that was done with it, until today when I got an email from the department where she\u2019s gotten her degree. \u00a0She had left something for me and I was asked to go pick it up.  So, at lunchtime, I trucked across campus and found the office where I picked up a small gift bag. \u00a0I didn\u2019t open it until I got back to the office, but saw there was a small post-it note with my building info on it.  I guess she\u2019d intended they deliver it to me &#8211; and the department decided I was going to pick it up instead. \u00a0Yeah, thanks.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back at my desk, I opened the gift bag and found a nice gift box. &nbsp;In the gift box was\u2026<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>A jewel encrusted metal peacock statue. \u00a0<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon further examination, I realized it was on a hinge and the torso would open up. &nbsp;So:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>A jewel encrusted metal peacock statue\/jewelry box<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s not a lot of storage area there &#8211; maybe a small ring or 2 M&amp;M\u2019s &#8211; and the whole thing is surprisingly heavy.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And\u2026 I have no idea what to do with it. &nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I know she appreciated my help &#8211; and likely the project would have failed without me &#8211; but it\u2019s such a strange thing. \u00a0I really would have been fine with just a thank-you.  Or, you know, cookies.  <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, thanks. \u00a0You shouldn\u2019t have. \u00a0I mean, you <em>really<\/em> shouldn\u2019t have. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of my recent projects was a rebuild\/overhaul of a website. &nbsp;There were many rounds of detail changes and some back and forth on the design, but I was pretty happy with the final result.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except, not final. &nbsp;Someone else joined the group I was working with and had a whole slew of changes. &nbsp;Including the addition of a new section on their homepage.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While I was grumbling about it I realized that I didn\u2019t have enough approved images to build that new section header. \u00a0The site is about bio-mimicry &#8211; the intersection of art and natural science &#8211; and I realized that I did have an image for that section. \u00a0Or, I shortly would.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I grabbed one of the origami projects I have in my office and found a good wall to photograph it against, then got out my phone and took a photo. \u00a0Downloaded, edited, cropped, resized and re-uploaded &#8211; to their website.
