{"id":2440,"date":"2018-11-10T16:27:41","date_gmt":"2018-11-10T16:27:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/?p=2440"},"modified":"2018-11-10T16:27:41","modified_gmt":"2018-11-10T16:27:41","slug":"not-a-drill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/2018\/11\/10\/not-a-drill\/","title":{"rendered":"not a drill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was inevitable, I guess. \u00a0The University of Akron had an active shooter on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It happened overnight and I didn\u2019t know anything about it until this morning when I checked my text messages and saw the alert and then the all clear. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ironically, just last week our team was talking about our emergency text system and that we should perhaps send out another test.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I got more detail once I was up and online. \u00a0In one of the dorms last night, one guy shot another guy in what is called an \u201caccidental weapon discharge\u201d. \u00a0Neither were UA students and the shooter is in custody &#8211; and the victim is in the hospital with a gut wound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No other details yet &#8211; other than that it\u2019s over.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the coming days and weeks, there will be a lot of questions. \u00a0Who were these guys? How did they get into a secured residence hall? \u00a0Who let them in? Why was there a gun on campus and who\u2019s was it?\u00a0 And why did it go off?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For now, my heart goes out to the students in the dorms. \u00a0What a terrible night they must have had. And all those that were responders trying to keep our campus safe and informed. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No matter the detail of the circumstance &#8211; accident or intentional &#8211; we\u2019re another statistic now. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One more data point.\u00a0 \u00a0 Shelter in place &#8211; this not a drill.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was inevitable, I guess. \u00a0The University of Akron had an active shooter on campus.
