With finally some nice weather, I decided that it was time to do a little yard work. \u00a0\u00a0Now, I generally hate working in the yard. It all seems so contrived and unnatural – and some weeds are really pretty. <\/span><\/p>\n

But, I live in a neighborhood and there\u2019s an expectation of putting in at least a little work. \u00a0In the past, I\u2019ve put in maybe a half-assed job at it. I keep the grass mowed and will occasionally trim – but that\u2019s about it until I rake leaves in the fall. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, though, I\u2019ve decided to strive for at least \u00be assed – or maybe even full-assed if I can get around to it.<\/span><\/p>\n

And I\u2019m treating yard-work less like yard-work and more like therapy. \u00a0After a stressful day at work, a little sunshine and wandering around my yard doing things seems like a fine way to chill out.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have started out strong in the past with a bout of intense activity – and then I get bored and stop. This time, I\u2019m taking it a little slower and have plans to do a little each day – with a little thought on what small project I\u2019ll tackle the next day to keep the momentum going.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ll see how it goes – I\u2019m hoping the neighbors appreciate it.<\/span><\/p>\n

This evening, though, I got a later start on the yard-work since I had an event to go to. \u00a0I\u2019m friends with an elected official ™ and she was having a fund-raiser. It was at a local bar\/restaurant and there was going to be food. \u00a0So, of course\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

I got there just as it started, got some grub (not actual grubs – mostly veggies) and sat down to chat and relax a bit. \u00a0I heard rumors of pizza on the horizon, so I didn\u2019t want to get too full on veggies.\u00a0 And yes, I know how that sounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

But, when the pizza came out and I opened the box – it was veggie.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whatever poker face I have – and mine isn\u2019t really great anyway – fell away with the betrayal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, I like most veggies – but pizza?\u00a0 Really?\u00a0 That’s a thing?<\/p>\n

I went ahead and took a couple slices and it was actually okay. \u00a0Carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower – and regular sauce and cheese. \u00a0No peppers or onions. <\/span><\/p>\n

I ate it – but I was disappointed a little.<\/span><\/p>\n

And then a second pizza came out! And it had pepperoni! \u00a0Yea!<\/span><\/p>\n

I only had one piece – I was already kinda full – and it was excellent. <\/span><\/p>\n

I met a few new people and shared some origami as we talked and ate. \u00a0And then it was time to go home and spread some mulch and dirt and do a little trimming. \u00a0A little bit every day – that\u2019s the plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, now, update the blog, take out the trash, and play a video game and read a book until it’s time for bed.\u00a0 It was kind of a crappy day at work, but the evening made up for it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
