Onions are still off the table, but when the occasional pepper makes it into the mix I\u2019ll usually just sigh and go with it. I call it, \u201cI\u2019m growing as a person,\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last night was a sushi party hosted by a couple of my friends. \u00a0It\u2019s an annual event and they have all the fixins for a variety of sushi rolls. \u00a0In the past, I would make my own rolls because it\u2019s fun (though I\u2019m terrible at it) and to moderate what goes in the roll. \u00a0Avocado? Cucumber? \u00a0Eel sauce? \u00a0Is that made <em>by<\/em> eels or make <em>of<\/em> eels? \u00a0Do they squeeze the sauce out of them or is this a \u201cthrow them in the blender\u201d process? \u00a0And I\u2019d normally say \u201cno thank you\u201d to all three of those ingredients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This time, though, I decided that I was going to try everything. \u00a0Whatever someone shared, I was on board. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I ate a lot of sushi. \u00a0I mean, a lot. \u00a0And it was all amazing. Flavors I hadn\u2019t expected, textures that surprised, sauces that complimented. \u00a0I have no idea what was in most of the rolls and didn\u2019t care. \u00a0It was a culinary adventure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I finished up with a strange looking &#8211; but tasty &#8211; roll and the requisite \u201cfar too much\u201d wasabi.\u00a0 \u00a0If you ain&#8217;t crying, you didn&#8217;t have enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And then I sat back &#8211; uncomfortably full, but happy &#8211; and enjoyed the variety of the conversations around me. This group of friends that were gathered were some of the smartest and most interesting people I know. \u00a0We talked politics, travel, education, several of the sciences, culture, music.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was pretty amazing and my normal \u201cugh, people\u201d didn\u2019t manifest &#8211; the party didn\u2019t close down until almost midnight and I stayed for the duration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Makes me want to try harder to \u201cengage\u201d. \u00a0I\u2019m perfectly happy on my own with a good book and a video game, but last night reaffirmed that there are some amazing people out there and I need to get out there more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Great friends, great conversation, and amazing sushi. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And before you go, \u201cYuck, sushi is so\u2026\u201d you need to shut up and get used to being wrong. \u00a0Because you\u2019re wrong and it\u2019s awesome. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Onions, however, are still terrible.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve always been a picky eater, but I\u2019ve been try of late to be better about that.
