My website got some mail the other day. \u00a0Not email – physical mail delivered to my house. \u00a0It was addressed to \u00a0\u201cThunderofwade Com\u201d and offered to sign the site up for an American Express card.<\/span><\/p>\n

I guess some mailing list assumed it was a business – and a successful one at that – and then trawled my Whois entry for the physical address. \u00a0Though, my actual name is there too as the owner\/admin.<\/span><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t imagine how I would actually sign up for something like that. \u00a0It\u2019s not like my website has a social security number – though I guess there is a date of birth of sorts. \u00a0Or as they would say in Blade Runner, an incep date.<\/span><\/p>\n

In any case, I declined on behalf of my site and shredded the mail. After all, I wouldn\u2019t want its identity to get stolen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the weekend I was at home and wanted a little background music while I worked around the house. \u00a0I fired up my Playstation 3, signed in to Spotify, and started a playlist going. \u00a0While I was still in the room, I heard the \u201cKawoosh\u201d of my phone\u2019s notification. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

(I have a notification sound set to the audio of a Portal opening. \u00a0Naturally.)<\/span><\/p>\n

I checked my phone and found a message from Spotify that, when opened, showed the Spotify player – queued up to play\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n

The song I was already listening to. <\/span><\/p>\n

It even noted that this was what was playing on my Playstation 3. \u00a0So, errr\u2026 what do I do with that? \u00a0Does it not know how a playstation works? \u00a0If I\u2019ve got that going, I\u2019m very likely to be in the same room – due to the nature of how sound<\/em> works. \u00a0\u00a0I sure don\u2019t need it on my phone too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Except\u2026 I did kinda have to go to the bathroom. \u00a0And that trip took me down to the basement where I couldn\u2019t hear the playstation music. <\/span><\/p>\n

So, I \u201ccould\u201d have had a musical accompaniment while I pooped – but I opted for Sudoku instead.<\/span><\/p>\n

Did it know that I needed to poop and thus anticipated that I would leave the room and potentially miss out on that song? \u00a0Or was this all just really dumb?<\/span><\/p>\n

Funny how narrow the line is between super smart and deeply dumb. \u00a0I think – hope – it was the latter. <\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, I got a robo-call from the president of the university last week about the football game. \u00a0On my cell phone – while I was at home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, a few years ago we got a \u201creverse 911\u201d call sent from the telecommunication system to all of our voice-mails at work. \u00a0It was a call from the head football coach at UA encouraging us to become…<\/span><\/p>\n

Do I have to say it?\u00a0 Yes, I suppose so…<\/p>\n

“Bowden Backers” <\/span><\/p>\n

…and support the football team. \u00a0I was only a few seconds into the message before I hit *D and obliterated that one – but I could at least see how the ill-conceived idea had been implemented. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This time, I\u2019m guessing the department of Athletics got a hold of the Alumni list of phone numbers and again tried to spam us on the phone to get us to a football game.<\/span><\/p>\n

And it worked as well as the voice-mail at work.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty good with the disconnect button on my cell phone too. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It would be nice if they asked me – on a scale of 1 to 10 – how enthused I was about Athletics. \u00a0I could then give them a negative number – I would actively discourage other people from being interested.<\/span><\/p>\n

And yes, I knoooooow they won. \u00a0And nooooooo, I still don\u2019t care.<\/span><\/p>\n

(See? Actively discouraging.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Wasting my damn time\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

So, UA Athletics has my number, Spotify knows when I\u2019m about to poop, and my website is ready to start earning airline miles.<\/span><\/p>\n
