{"id":2292,"date":"2017-11-08T03:26:06","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T03:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/?p=2292"},"modified":"2017-11-08T03:26:06","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T03:26:06","slug":"a-quick-trip-to-vegas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thunderofwade.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/08\/a-quick-trip-to-vegas\/","title":{"rendered":"A quick trip to Vegas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A friend and co-worker of Jim\u2019s was getting married in Vegas and invited us both to go. \u00a0We were on the fence about the time and the cost, but managed to find a cheap flight that gave us a little time in Vegas at a reasonable hotel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve never been, Las Vegas is a strange place. \u00a0Our hotel was nice &#8211; but in a terrible neighborhood right off the strip. \u00a0The closest place to eat was in the most depressing casino in the history of&#8230;well\u2026 forever &#8211; but the pizza was great. Bright lights and loud noises indoors &#8211; trash and grime outside. \u00a0Great wealth and excess &#8211; and deep poverty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was a lot of good on the trip. \u00a0The wedding was in a nice venue outdoors at a casino and very&#8230; well&#8230; efficient. \u00a0Not the most ringing endorsement, I guess, but very pretty and easy on the guests. \u00a0\u00a0The reception had good food and was also pretty efficient &#8211; a side effect of so much going on that everything has to be on a tight schedule. \u00a0Actually, all the food we ate there was pretty good &#8211; and I\u2019m a picky eater.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We spent some time with another of Jim\u2019s co-workers and her husband &#8211; and they were a blast. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I lost a dollar in the slot machines and Jim stopped when he was up $12.00. \u00a0\u00a0We took a walk around the strip and saw the fountains at one of hotels and a nature preserve at another. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parts though, were stressful. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everywhere we went was crushed with people &#8211; day and night. \u00a0And getting from one place to another was always more complicated than it needed to be. \u00a0It was loud and bright and confusing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And everywhere we went were people trying to hustle for one club or event or something. \u00a0The saddest were the homeless and the mentally troubled &#8211; only steps away from drink specials, buffets, and people almost literally throwing money away. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A strange place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I liked parts of the trip, but I don\u2019t think I need to go back there for awhile. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, I\u2019m glad I got to go to the wedding and getting outside my comfort zone is something I need to do more often. \u00a0And I got some good stories out of the trip &#8211; which is usually worth the price of admission to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ll save the plane rides for another post &#8211; and perhaps dream tonight of bright lights and fickle luck.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A friend and co-worker of Jim\u2019s was getting married in Vegas and invited us both to go. \u00a0We were on the fence about the time and the cost, but managed to find a cheap flight that gave us a little time in Vegas at a reasonable hotel.
