Another driving rant

Thu May 01, 2003

Okay, so, I'm headed down the street on my way home from work. There's two lanes and I've got mine all picked out, a straight shot to my turn a couple of miles ahead. All of the sudden, we're down to one lane (not mine, unfortunately) and traffic drops to a crawl as we all try to merge.

Is is an accident? Did something fall off a truck? Nope, it's two bozos unloading mulch into somebody's yard. We're about 4 minutes away from rush hour and these fools have caused a major traffic incident on a busy road.

You see this all the time. People picking up kids, delivery people dropping off crap, morons with mulch.

I think I may have mentioned this before, but I'm a point A to point B kinda driver. And, strangely enough, I use the road to do that. If I need to stop my car and it's not at a red light, I will find a place that's designated for that purpose.

It's like people that park in a fire lane with their hazards on. Yep, they're hazards. Hazards to my sanity.

Let me spell this one out:

1. Drive on roads
2. Park in designated parking locations
3. Stay the hell out of the fire lane - I don't care if you're only going be a minute.

This is about being aware of the world around you - and a healthy dose of courtesy. Was the mulch more important than safe and easy access to parts of the city for hundreds of people? Is it right for UPS to block traffic so that they can quickly deliver the latest Precious Moments figurine? If a building burns to the ground because a fire truck can't get anywhere near it since you're blocking access so you can get some groceries - is that okay?

And the answer is no. Wake up. Start paying attention. Be nice to other people or I'm going to go kick some ass
