slenderman, making of

Parts list:

The last set of shoes I bought had foot shaped cardboard inserts. I didn't buy the shoes just because of that - but it was a factor. A little paint, some black foam for the sole and a little hot melt glue to the lower legs and Slender had his feet.

Parts. The head is paper mache over foam-in-a-can - spray painted and mounted on a short length of PVC pipe. The torso is high density foam hot melt glued into a rectangle with PVC pipe for shoulders and hips. The limbs are PVC pipe covered in pipe insulation tubes with electrical wire loops for the joints. Finally, the hands are kid's garden gloves filled with foam pieces and painted.

The assembled body, with the fabric suit. Note the poles connected to the wrists - these would let me wave the arms. He's a little taller than me, but his feet won't touch the ground.

The back. I had intended to use the hole as the locking point for a piece that would push the body out from mine, but I didn't need it. Below that is an insert of pipe with a wire that I can attach suspenders to - and this will hold him up and off the ground.

Kneepads. I attached a small length of PVC pipe to the front of the kneepads and then use a dowel rod with a rubber tip to hold securely - but still let me remove it when I needed a break.

Here you can see the rods attached to the back of slender's knees. With the rubber tipped rod inserted into the kneepad tubes the action of walking would also walk Slender.

I wanted all the focus to be on the slenderman puppet, so I went with a blank hood/mask. And, I needed to be clean shaven, apparently.
